INDEPENDENT. OBSESSIVE. UNAFFILIATED.
I examine the world’s finest footwear — up close, and without allegiance.
I’m Hermano Miller. I take luxury shoes apart with my eyes — the welt, the stitch, the last, the finish — and report exactly what I find. No brand pays me. No house gets a pass.

Goodyear Welt vs Blake Stitch: Which One Actually Ages Better?
You found two gorgeous derbies. Same leather, same price, nearly identical lines. One tag says “Goodyear welted.” The other says

The Architecture of the Perfect Last: A Study in Anatomy
Every exceptional bespoke shoe begins long before leather meets thread. It starts with the last—the wooden form upon which the shoe is built.

THE METHOD
I don’t sell shoes. I study them.
Every piece I cover is examined the same way: in the hand, in raking light, sole-up and seam-by-seam. I trace how the upper meets the welt. I read the stitching to tell Goodyear from Blake from Norvegese — and I say so plainly when a shoe is cemented and priced like it isn’t.
- WHAT I LOOK FOR
- Construction method, leather quality, finishing, and whether the price matches the making.
- WHAT I OWE YOU
- An independent read. I hold no brand affiliation, and I’ll tell you when a celebrated name cuts a corner.
